MTV Africa All Stars KZN announces workshop


Music industry hopefuls who want to establish productive careers can benefit from the upcoming MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal Music Industry Workshop.

The youth empowerment workshop, which will be held in conjunction with the MTV Africa All Stars Kwazulu-Natal with Snoop Lion show, takes place at the Playhouse in Durban on Friday 17 May from 09h30 to 14h00.

Arranged by music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and KwaZulu-Natal Province, the free workshop gives insights into the music business, tapping into the expertise of established musicians, managers and industry insiders. Topics to be discussed include 'Getting Out There', a module which discusses innovative ways for musicians to promote themselves and their music, 'Music and Money' a session on how to monetise products and 'Bands as Brands'.

More than 300 students and emerging musicians from the Durban area have been invited to attend the workshop.

Some of the music industry heavyweights participating in the workshop are:
  • DJ Cleo, award-winning South African recording artist and producer
  • Efe Omorogbe, manager of Nigerian superstar 2Face
  • Fally Ipupa, Congolese 'Sexy Dance' sensation and his manager Madina Djoboungue
  • Vukile Zondi, Gagasi FM programming manager
  • Farah Fortune, celebrity PR maestro
  • Tonya Merritt, manager of D’Banj
  • Refiloe Ramogase, manager of Kuli Chana and TKZee

Alex Okosi, senior vice president and managing director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, will join the ‘Getting Out There’ panel and MTV legal representative Alishia Chotu will participate in the 'Music and Money' session.


The sessions will be moderated by MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo.
